Our Team

Les Divers - Director

Les has been a principal of Churton, Hart & Divers since 1975. He was the firm’s litigation partner for 30 years but the continuous growth of the practice means that his Court or Tribunal appearances are now rare. His wide background in and knowledge of many aspects of the law enables him to provide clients with practical, sage advice. Les enjoys the relationship he develops with clients, evidenced by acting for multiple generations of some families over periods of decades.

Property, both commercial and residential, trusts, estates, and relationship property agreements are areas of the law in which Les is particularly experienced.

A resident of the area since 1967, Les enjoys his family which includes grandchildren, fishing, running and is an active Rotarian.

Michele Lu - Director

After working in a reputable Newmarket law firm for more than 10 years, Michele joined the firm in August 2013 and is now a director of the firm. Michele gained her legal executive qualification in 2001 and subsequently completed her law degree at Auckland University in 2008.

As a general practitioner, Michele assists her clients with buying and selling properties and businesses, leasing commercial premises, subdividing land, drafting Wills, forming Trusts and managing estate matters.

Michele is fluent in English, Mandarin and Shanghainese.  She enjoys working with clients in their own language.  She adopts a client focused approach based on listening to their needs, turning work around quickly and providing simple solutions.  

Alistair Van Schalkwyk - Director

Alistair has a background centred in franchising, asset protection, and general commercial law, with degrees in both Commerce and Laws. He came to Churton Hart & Divers from a respected central city Auckland firm where he was a partner for a number of years. Alistair enjoys assisting his clients with a broad range of matters, and prides himself on establishing excellent longstanding relationships with his clients.

Alistair’s experience also includes practicing as a lawyer in South Africa, presenting at the New Zealand franchising conference, and authoring the franchising materials for a market leader in legal resources for lawyers, which are now used nationwide. Alistair is fluent in English and Afrikaans, and has family in South Africa and New Zealand.

Mark Mason - Consultant

Mark assists clients of the firm in creating, reviewing and carrying out health checks on Trusts. Mark is a Solicitor who has previously acted as a consultant to this firm and has a wide range of experience as a principal of a legal firm, National Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, presenter for the NZ Law Society and in property and business development. 

He brings a significant amount of experience to be able to ensure that your Trust is up to date and is reviewed appropriately. 

 

Julie Lim - Solicitor

Julie graduated from University of Auckland in 2011 with a conjoint Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. Prior to joining the firm Julie worked for law firms out in Pukekohe and Newmarket. Julie has extensive experience in Residential Conveyancing, Commercial, Business sales and purchases, Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorneys, Trusts and Relationship Property agreements.

Luzette Marrett - Solicitor

Luzette is a local who was born and raised in Howick. She has returned to familiar surroundings after a number of years working as a Solicitor in an established commercial practice based in downtown Auckland city. Luzette’s background includes assisting clients with a large range of matters including asset protection measures, family and testamentary disputes, relationship agreements, and commercial documents. She has a conjoint degree in Arts and Laws.

Luzette has a good eye for detail, drafting, and thinking outside the box to get good results. Luzette has a pragmatic and friendly approach and enjoys a great relationships with her clients.

 

Teresa Bright – Practice Manager

Teresa has worked in legal practices for over 35 years and joined the firm in 1999. With the firm’s growth over the years her position as Personal Assistant to Les Divers has extended to include the role of Practice Manager. Teresa is responsible for providing day to day assistance to Les Divers, management of the team and office; focusing on providing a happy working environment; dealing with client enquiries and ensuring the clients receive exceptional service.

Teresa enjoys spending her spare time with family and friends, reading and playing cards.

 

Toni Hawkey – Trust Accountant

Toni has more than 25 years’ experience in legal accounts at various legal firms in Christchurch and Auckland.  Toni started with the firm in 2001 as a part timer while raising her children has been our full time trust accountant since 2013.

Known for her meticulous record-keeping, Toni is responsible for the effective operation of our trust account and handling of client’s funds as well as all aspects of the firms office account.

Outside of work, Toni enjoys running, road cycling and spending time outdoors and with her family.

 

Vanya Jones – Legal Executive

Vanya joined the firm in 2014 having started working in law in the 1990s.  She qualified as a Legal Executive in 2003 and has worked for many city and suburban law practices over the years.  Vanya has experience in Conveyancing, estate planning, estate administration and trusts.  

 

Jenny Seto – Legal Executive

Jenny is a qualified Legal Executive.  Jenny joined the firm after having worked in Highland Park, Newmarket, and Ponsonby. Jenny has extensive property experience in Residential and Commercial conveyancing, Unit Titling, Business Sale and Purchases, Trust and Wills.

 

Kylie Osborne - Legal Secretary / Office Manager

Kylie qualified as a legal executive in 1997 and has over 15 years’ experience working as a legal assistant in various law firms locally, in Nelson and in Cambridge.  Kylie is currently the PA to Les Divers assisting him with a wide range of general legal matters.  Kylie is also responsible for management of the office, focusing on providing a positive working environment, dealing with client enquiries and ensuring our clients receive exceptional service.

Kylie enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 teenagers and loves being at the beach and enjoying time with friends and family.  

 

Jo Clark – Legal Secretary

Jo is an experienced legal secretary. Jo joined the firm from another East Auckland law firm in July 2011. Jo now works predominantly with Judith Park in a broad range of transactions and enjoys dealing with clients to ensure that their transactions proceed smoothly.

Outside of work Jo enjoys exercising and spending time with her family.  

 

Natalie Outtrim – Legal Secretary

Natalie is an experienced legal secretary and has been with the firm for 9 years. Natalie has previously worked for various legal firms since leaving school. Natalie enjoys working for the firm due to the proximity of the office close to home as she places a high importance on family.  Natalie is married with two children who attend Pakuranga College.

 

 Mila Cheung - Legal Secretary

Mila have been working in various Auckland law firms since 1999 and is a qualified Legal Executive. Mila is the assistant to Michele and Julie assisting them with property conveyancing transactions and other general legal matters.  Mila enjoys working alongside the pleasant friendly work mates in Churton Hart & Divers.   

 

Sharon Harrison - Legal Secretary

Sharon joined the firm in March 2017 and has 13 years experience as a legal secretary.  Sharon assists Jenny Seto and one of our senior solicitors.

Living locally, Sharon has worked in various East Auckland firms and thoroughly enjoys client contact.
Sharon graduated with the NZLS Legal Executive Diploma in May 2016.

Outside of work, Sharon enjoys the challenge of boot camp training and spending time with her two growing children. 

 Amanda McDonald – Legal Secretary

 Amanda qualified as a legal executive in 2012 and has over 20 years’ experience working as a legal assistant and, over the last few years has worked as a registered legal executive.  Amanda originally joined our team in 2013 and left for a brief time in 2017 but she has returned this year to a place where she feels happy and has a lot of respect for the whole team at CHD. 

Amanda is currently assisting Michele,Julie and Vanya with conveyancing matters and also in relation to a variety of other legal matters.

Outside of work Amanda loves spending time with her family and friends and enjoys watching, and sometimes participating in, netball.

 Becki Johns - Receptionist

Becki moved from the UK almost 14 years ago, she was previously a hairdresser and studied small business management.

After working as Trust accountant in an inner city Law firm for 4 years Becki decided to leave the city and work closer to home.  Becki joined the firm in 2017 and enjoys the client contact being at front desk. 

Outside of work, Becki enjoys time with her friends & family or travelling/exploring New Zealand.
